Agave Nectar
BrainToniq – Why the sweetener?
BrainToniq have gone to an awful lot of trouble to develop a totally healthy, organic botanical beverage so why bother to sweeten it?
When is a sweetener not a sweetener?
Although BrainToniq has added a sweetener, it is one which is completely natural and organic, but more than that, it has no harmful side effects whatsoever.
Well there’s no point in evading the issue, the sweetener was added in the first place to enhance the flavor. Not that the flavor can be so bad anyway, after all it comes from a blend of citrus fruit extracts including; passion fruit, grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime. But in the real commercial world, BrainToniq needs to appeal to the majority of the general public, and something with a hint of sweetness is preferred overall.
However, BrainToniq haven’t sacrificed any of their finer principles here. In actual fact, if anything, they have taken a decision which is very much in accordance with their health ethic, even though the resultant price of formulation is very much higher.
Agave nectar
The reason is that BrainToniq have included a natural product called Agave syrup, sometime known alternatively as Agave nectar in their formulation. Agave nectar is derived from a member of the cactus family. It is the same cactus that is also used in the making of the alcoholic drink, Tequila. Before we go on, I should say at once, that there is absolutely no alcohol whatsoever in Agave nectar.
Agave nectar is what is known as a complex carbohydrate. Complex carbohydrates are much better for the body than simple carbohydrates (like traditional sugar), because they release their energy over a longer period of time, not in a short sharp rush, quickly followed by a sharp decline.
In much of the health beverage sector, many manufacturers use the label “sugar free” as a selling point. Unfortunately, often the words “sugar free” means that an artificial sweetener has been incorporated instead, and they are much, much worse for the body system than sugar itself. Artificial sweeteners have been proven to be harmful to healthy cell growth and there have been links establishing their use to occurrences of certain types of cancer.
Some kinds of sugar are worse than others and the worst culprit is white granulated sugar which is a processed sugar bleached and starched. Some natural sugars include fruit fructose and bee honey both of which have positive health properties.
But the Agave nectar chosen for inclusion in the BrainToniq formula was chosen with a specific purpose in mind other than its natural organic pedigree. Agave nectar has the lowest Glycemic index of any other sweetener. That mean that it is Diabetic “friendly” and the Glycemic Research Institute of New York has pronounced BrainToniq as being fit for consumption by Diabetics. Quite a coup!
There is also a growing opinion amongst health practitioners, that organic Agave can be classed as a health enhancing food. It contains both Inulin and Saponins.
Saponins are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and reputedly boost the immune system, and Inulin is a type of fiber that can help with weight loss. It also has cholesterol lowering capabilities and is said to be able to reduce the rick of some types of cancer.
